I noticed too. Compared to the first few chapters, the artwork isn't as good.

I too, also think they did they art of the comic to match what they were talking of in the chapter. also, the first few chapters of a manga is done way a head before printing, after that they manga ka has to get a chapter done in a few days. Every shounen manga I read, the quality drops along the way (very few of them ever picks up again).

True. Death Note was detailed because of the dark, serious story. Still, I guess even Obata has his limits.

There's a good chance that it will happen. Bakuman seems to be the opposite of Death Note, with most of the conflicts resolving themselves rather peacefully and antagonists redeeming themselves and becoming friends with the main characters along the way. (Iwase(?) has already started along this path recently when she helped them out a bit)

Death Note seemed to tell the story of the fall of various characters, but Bakuman is more about the rise, I don't think many of the characters are going to end up unhappy by the end.
