Lately with a friend we have seen in movies, comics, mangas, etc. A lot of close up's no almost nothing of shots. Example, Prince of Persia: The entire movie is made in close up's and you never understand where is happening the events (and the few shots are very short and fast and you can't appreciate it). Other example is the movie of evangelion 2,22; the first part of the movie is only close up's and you never understand what is going on or where is happening the event.

The deal with this is, are we in a moment where shots, landscape and others are not used anymore? why overuse close up's? and what do you think about this over use (or if you can say is a over use)?

PD: For lucky to us, this is not happening to much in comics or mangas, but maybe this bad obsession that you can see in movies, in some moment is going to take comics/mangas.

Close-ups for comics are used because they are easier to draw that anything else. In films, though, there is no excuse.

They're not doing enough close-ups. I want that camera so far up the actor's nose that I can see brain tissue.

But for seriously, I get what you mean. Soon a movie will come that consists of nothing but extreme close-ups, explosions and big boobs.

This, pretty much. Evangelion does even worse things than that though. A completely still frame of two people looking at each other in a dark room for 5 minutes? Really?

Also manga favors decompression so you will have long conversations that you could finish in a couple pages actually taking entire chapters to complete, and it doesn't seem like most of the artists know how to make a dialog scenes interesting.

As for film, Iduno. Its all about shaky cam and super fast cuts nowadays.

Oops! *Trashes manga's draft pages*

Seriously, I have a problem with that too, since I lose confidence in my anatomy from time to time. I don't even draw big boobs or even explosions too much. That'll go away as I get better, I think. It's improving slowly . . .

HAVE YOU EVER SEEN ONE MISSED CALL III?
Oh. My gosh. Dead serious, FIVE-MINUTE LONG scene of mute people signing to each other, with no changes in camera angle. D:<!!

And I hate shaky cam. It is my pet peeve. People have told me that I've ruined their favorite movies, because I point out irritating shaky cam. Sometimes I just have to wonder: Did the cameraman have a seizure? (The one rainy scene in the middle of Pride and Prejudice was 100% lolworthy.)

Close up's are used for combersations, but you shouldn't never start with a close up, or if you do, you need to give a sense to it, but in this days close up's are becoming a synonym of cool-fast-action and that is soo far of the true, a good scene, even a combersation need shots and different kind of shot's, because the reader or the watcher, need to understand whats going on.

When I was younger I learn this making awfull comics who no one udnerstood, because I didn't though of the shot's so before you put any dialog, you need to think "is this story (only the shots) is understandable without dialogs?" because if isn't then is a bad work (at least if is not udnerstandable at first sight, then at least must get some sense in the end).

I think people is giving to much importance to the action part and not to the power of the composition of the comic (or movie).

A movie with only close up shots of big boobs? Sorry, not interested -_- I like flat chest better...

And I also hate shaky cam. I really hate how shaky is the fighting scenes in Bourne Supremacy. Makes me unable to tell what's really happening... and dizzy.

Honestly, I kinda dig the close ups, and if the shaky-can thing is done well in enough in conjunction with very smooth and compliacted shots and far-away shots (to remind you that it's professional), then I say, by all means, use a few close ups.
