FL Studio 9 appears to be out now. Since I bought 8 a while back I got the free update... pretty cool. There's finally some decent drumsets in the damn thing and okay-ish guitar synths, which saves me a lot of trouble.

Wrote a song using those, anyway - Cyclopean Towers

Cover song.
Also, Nyar, it's cool, but I think it came on a little too strong. Like some metal songs start off by blaring the riffs with no build-up opening, and it kind of puts me at unease for the first 30 seconds of the song.

But doesn't it make the song MORE brutal if it makes you uneasy?

Yeah, you're right that it needs an intro. I was sort of like 'OKAY IS TIEM TO MAKE NEXT RIFF NOW' and forgot about that part :P

Sometimes an abrupt intro is a good idea, and can be extremely effective, but that's not really the case for my song.

Well, see, in my eyes, that growl was enough of an intro to really grip and prepare me, since it had no drums or guitars or anything. Just something as simple as that can add a whole new level of brutal to the song. A little drum solo at the beginning of your song could've made it that much cooler. However, I didn't really like that synth. It kinda turned me off because it was too crisp, and the drums didn't interest me too much.

And no, Dokken, it doesn't make it even more brutal. I really dislike the fact that almost all Metal artists change tempos in the middle of the song. It makes it less enjoyable for me, it confuses me, and it makes me want to go back to listening to only Dethklok and Metallica.

Yeah, synth guitars suck. That's why normally we just have Tsathoggua record it :P Writing metal using synths alone is pretty iffy, so I generally just silly goose around with it.

I like tempo changes, I just don't like 'predictable breakdown #432425'. Skillfully varying rhythm and tempo is part of what sets good bands apart from the bad (and why Lamb of God is actually worth listening to, but its horde of spinoff bands are not). Even Dethklok and Metallica employ tempo changes, you realize? Anyway, Meshuggah is probably the best example of tempo/polyrhythm mindfuckery taken to the extreme.

Well, I mean they just fuck up the tempo and it sounds like a mash-up of shit. Take Carnifex for example. Not to mention they over-fucking-do the growling. Jesus, you don't have to override the rest of the band with your voice the entire fucking song. Oh my, I'm ranting. Back on track, Metallica and Dethklok skillfully employ the tempo changes, smoothly transitioning so that you can adjust your headbanging at a nice rate.
