Wow, I'm stuck in the drawing everybody left phase. The first manga I ever read was Tokyo Mew mew, so most of the thinks I drew were girls in pink

When I started, all characters I drew had Dragonball Z-style outfits, especially the outfit Goku always wears, what's the name... Gi? Of course the hair was always spiky enough to put out an eye. Oh, everyone, including two-year olds, were packed with (badly-drawn) muscles.
Then came my 'must put a tail on everyone' phase. I do have some nice tailed characters left from that period. Then I added ears (cat-like or dog-like). Never made it to anthro, though. Then I began drawing according to the dreaded seme/uke rule. Tiny, blushy ukes with permanent tears in their eyes and smirking 'the world (and your ass) is mine'-semes. I was stuck in that phase for quite some time, actually
And only since a year or two I finally have *gasp* normal characters. Well, normal... they don't have cat-ears or tails or freaky eyes. That's reserved for my other characters :} I guess the two latests are too boringly human to be inspired by something IDEK. In any case right at this moment my characters don't really have characteristics that link them to a particular show.

Maybe as an artist we should purposely avoid certain things so we don't end up drawing crack

When I was super little, I drew animals.
At 3rd grade pokemon became popular and I only drew those.
Everything was an anthro when I was a silly goose
Started drawing really crappy and generic looking anime drawings by the time I was 14
Finally started developing my own style when I was 16 but still failed with a bunch of things
And now I'm here still trying to be like one of those cartoon gods on dA

I'm either in the lazy procrastinating phase or the work like a fanatic phase, but never in between. Length of time in either phase dependent on alignment of the planets. Figures. :/

Right now I'm in a very....busy phase? Yet I've opened so much room for improvement, and I'm trying to fill it with new/updated skills...so I'm back at the good ole' learning phase again.

All my drawing phases have either been furious attempts to get better after looking at art gods on DA, or subconsciously self-induced art blocks.

My last art block lasted about a year :/
now i'm in a creative mood but i can't get everything i want done.
because of college, mates, nights out, chores, five hours of traveling on buses most days of the week, by the time i get home i just want to sleep lol I need a week with just music and art.

Well I only thirteen so not much to say. When I was like 6 me and my bro (he was like 12-13 ish) and sis (she was 7) would all watch dragonballz and pokemon so first I was obsessesed with drawing pokemon and after a year or so I drew dragon ball z. I watched/watch dragon ball z,pokemon,mew mew power (that's what it's called right?), sailor moon, dragon ball,bleach, full metal alchemist and now I watch naruto shippuden; I used to watch naruto. Anyways the only other show I drew was naruto which is all I draw right now (with referance picture) so I only draw manga cause it's what I love :3 although I would love to draw realism T.T

Yeah this is the same with me. I tried to start realistically but all I could think was "if I were drawing manga I'd be having so much more fun right now."

omg I can't believe I forgot to mention Yu Gi Oh! That show was great too, now it sucks lol they changed everything -.-

Middle school; tracing
High school; tracing and silly goose only drawings
college; early college, anime phase
now; just trying to do everything but generic crap.

I'm trying to reteacg myself how to color like I used to while trying to simultaneously inject my new work with more color theory. DX IT IS PAINFULLLLL.

I went through a couple phases. One where I only drew dragons (gee, who'd have guessed?) and one where I tried to draw covers for horror/thriller books, but they all sucked.

Then I tried to do stuff with oil pastels...it was okay, but not really my medium of choice. It's nice to be able to smear the stuff in different directions, though.
