To be fair on Rand, though, objectivism is fairly logically constructed if you accept its original principle (humans use their logic to survive, and survival is man's ultimate goal). The main problem is that she goes from saying "humans use logic as a tool of survival" to "humans ought to base all their ethics off their own survival", which is a pretty big fail. It's like me going from saying "everyone likes ice-cream" to "everyone ought to kill, silly goose, murder and steal to get ice-cream". Objectivism is a beautiful philosophy aside from the one mistake Rand makes - it's like an upside-down pyramid, and if you apply any force it topples over.
Based on its first principles, then, Objectivism makes perfect sense - but its first principles are fucking stupid and logically incoherent.

EDIT: Which is probably why many of its detractors say it's like a religion. ;)
