OK, it's a Web-Comic, manga thing, and it's pretty damn popular? Who here's read it? Anybody? If not, it's worth a good read.

It's the first I've ever heard of it. What's it about? And links?

HERP DERP (on my part).

This is the first strip. Be warned, he's done nearly a page a day for the last 8 years, if you like it, you will be occupied for quite a while. Also, the art get's better. A lot.

It starts out with a highly ironic seer telling people their quite obvious problems (that the idiots in town can't figure out) after that it turns into a Fantasy, with Orcs and all that good stuff. Though, they aren't the normal interpretations.

It also has a TV Tropes and Wikipedia page, so you can get better descriptions there.

Thanks for the warning! I don't think it'd be good if I got hooked on it while I'm in the middle of getting the new site up and running. XD

Anyways, it's sounds interesting. Maybe when I'm not as occupied I'll check it out.

It is beyond terrible and written by a sociopath. Mookie is a misogynist and pretty much when he's not objectifying women he's having violence directed against them. One of the heroes rapes a woman and this is considered a heroic action. When one woman is killed Mookie makes sure to draw her in such a fashion that we get to see her ass, because nothing is as arousing as a pantyshot on a corpse.

Same with another bit where a girl's unconscious. There's nothing creepy about sexualizing a woman in a state where she is more or less literally an object. Oh, and then there's the fact that Mookie's been fucking doing this wretched comic for about a decade now and his art style still hasn't improved. It's just as shitty as it was 10 years ago. How anyone can do something more or less daily for a decade and not improve is beyond me, but eh.

I'd link the thread on SA about it, but currently SA's forums are viewable to members only. So, in stead, here's John Solomon's epic review. It's old, and many more awful things have happened since, but anything he says is still applicable. Mookie has gotten worse, not better.

http://web.archive.org/web/200709151511 ... eegan.html

And, yes, you'll notice that I focus mostly on his failings as an artist and as a human being. If I focused on Mookie's failures as a writer, I don't think I'd ever finish writing.

EDIT: Among other things DD's "heroes" have
-Raped a woman.
-Left a hunter to be eaten alive by slime monsters.
-Made jokes about a dead woman's ass.
-And lots, lots more!

But deserved.

Dominic Deegan and Ctrl+Alt+Del are unique among the sea of shitty webcomics in that they are both written by truly reprehensible people. That's why they are so often singled out - their authors are as vile as their works.

Although, granted, I have more sympathy for Mookie than B^Uckley. Mookie comes across to me more as an autistic pervert - he's misogynistic by way of ignorance and bias, rather than by active hatred. He doesn't understand human emotions. Buckley, on the other hand, is jut a complete monster. He's actively misogynistic - his hatred of women is an active and conscious one - and he knows that other people find him revolting, he just doesn't care.

EDIT: More DD reviews by the amazing John Solomon (Who's a Goon and quite active in the DD thread on SA. He's also famously the author of the DD parody comic "Dominic Durgan." These are meant to be read in order. I believe the second link references the sexualization of the unconscious chick.

This was the worst thing I have ever read.

The dialogs are awful, jokes bad, use jokes of other people (in an awful way), art shit, everything sucks.

I read some pages and it was truly a a waste of time.

And for no reason I'm not surprise that Bacon is posting this.

To be honest I have read more clever and intellectual literature in the subway bathroom.

Yes. Deegan is terrible.

I try to avoid talking about his writing, because it's such a clusterfuck it's hard to imagine where to start. I will say though that he fails at one of the most basic things in fantasy or sci-fi literature.

When you create a fictional universe that operates differently from our own, the most important thing is consistency. That helps create the illusion of reality that allows your audience to suspend their disbelief. As much as I hate Tolkien this is one of the things he understood rather well. Look at what I do with my writing. This is why a certain degree of world-building is necessary for any work of fiction.

Deegan does do this, at all. Deegan's world is poorly thought out and even more poorly explained. Events happen along rules that are made up as Mookie goes along and/or poorly/never explained to the audience. As Solomon says - everything is explained by "A wizard did it!"

It's okay to have "magic is magic." Lots of great writers do that. I do that, sometimes. But it's not okay to use that as a license for deus ex machina.

Just noticed something Bacon said:

This is one of the most damnable lies I have ever read.

Wait how old is the guy who makes this. That review said something like mid twenties and that is three years old.

Yeah, that'd make him older than most of the folks in this forum. D:

Like B^Uckley, Mookie is now pushing 30, if not already over 30.

I don't think there is a kid thinking "I wish to be like him when I grew up".
