I'm too lazy to look it up, but my guess would be either Inu Yasha or the Dragon Ball series (how the heck many are there :/ ?)

Oh, Naruto's pretty long, too I hear. Are you doing a report?

No no no, the longest manga in history would be Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kōen-mae Hashutsujo (This is the police station in front of Kameari Park in Katsushika Ward). I know this because this manga is often mentioned in other mangas as the longest manga in history (more than 1000 chapters, symbolized stubbornness and persistence, and it's very famous even among famous mangaka.

In my country, it's titled "1001 Days" (which is completely wrong) so I have to look up the information from Wikipedia. And I look up for some more information and find this numbers (and they are quite right since those are about the latest volumes published in my country too.

Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari Kōen-mae Hashutsujo (the manga I'm talking about) = 171 volumes!!!

One Piece = 60 volumes
Inuyasha = 56 volumes
Naturo = 52 volumes
Bleach = 47 volumes
Dragon Ball = 42 volumes

They are far below the top 10 longest manga in history (since 50-100 volumes is common in manga history)

Wow, you know you stuff. Kudos to you! :) I was just guessing.

That's a pretty long series...It's weird, I've been around, but I've never heard of it. But then, the genres I read aren't exactly...you know, post-modern :) They're just fantasy and action.

Is it still being written?

Last time I checked (which is several years ago), it's still ongoing. According to Wikipedia (which is last modified at November 2010), it's also still ongoing.

My best bet is that as long as Osamu Akimoto (the author) still alive, he will keep making this manga (it's a shame to stop it, really, after 170+ volumes). I hope it could reach volumes 200 ^_^

Hajime no Ippo, it has more than 900 chapter. Also it could be Dectective Conan who has 70 volumes.

Lol, I was about to make a mistake and post this manga but never mind. Yep, this is the longest running manag with over 1600 chapters published.

Unless that police manga stops, it is highly unlikely.

Hajime no Ippo - 93 volumes
Detective Conan - 70
Major - 77

Hajime no Ippo may overtake that longest running manga but my money is on One Piece. One Piece began serialization in 1997 while HnI began in 1990. There's a seven year difference and between OP and HnI and there's only about a 30 volume difference right now. Several more years and One Piece will overpass HnI imo.

Hasn't Golgo13 been going for a while? since like the late 60's I think.

Given the fact that it's NEVER come out in English, theirs a good reason you would have never heard of it. (And its set in Japan, and is sort of a local thing. Like how Boondocks wouldn't be funny in Japan.)
