Rly? Oh, then how would you classify it?

It's American with foreign influences.
The same can be said for the Boondocks, which is as close to non-anime anime as you'll get.

It's funny (for me) when reading that sentence...

What is an anime actually? I'm not trying to play words, but isn't anime is just cartoon from Japan. Or cartoon done with style that very commonly used by Japanese artist?

Avatar is just another American cartoon (it's American, right? Since it's made by Nick?) that heavily (or mildly or what ever you want to say) influenced by Japanese animation (anime) style.

Usually, I (and my friends) say anime when we're talking about Japanese animation and cartoon when talking about western (american) animation. Though they're not different, an animation... Just like manga (Japan), comic (American/DC/Marvel), manhwa (Korea). They are all same thing, just different origin/style.

You know what blew my mind when I got older and started reading credits? All those good ole "American" cartoons like, you know The Hobbit/Return of the King, The Last Unicorn (soundtrack by America, no less,) Thunder Cats--none of those were American drawn. They're all Japanese artists. Are they Anime? They don't look quite like what we see in anime today, but then if you compare something like Astroboy (Osamu Tezuka) to say Wolf's Rain (Bonez) or Paprika (Satoshi Kon), they're totally different, but both anime (I'm talking about the movie adaptations of Osamu's work, I don't know what company did them.)

Avatar: The Last Airbender, was made in USA (probably the background in Corea), but the animation is from USA and (this is the important part) is not made by copy paste.

The deal, for my at least, is that anime is synonymous of copy paste in animation, and cartoon, is a animation but with childish connotations (we know this is not true, but is what people think). So, at least I, use this terms as: Anime for copy paste animation (all the guilty is for shöjo anime). Cartoon for childish animation. And Animation for all the good ones.

This is because, the true term in here is Animation (anime, cartoon, flash, etc... all that are just animations), and I use it, to refer to good quality animation (like: flcl, evangelions movies, cowboy bebop, ren and stimpy, etc).

Anime is Japanese for animation. Any kind, western, eastern, pixar, disney, Claymation, anything animated would be anime in the technical and correct sense of the word. It's just constantly taken out of context(for lack of a better word) to sybolize animation from japan(and sometimes korea) from the era of Astro Boy onward.

I'm not really style/genre biased, unless I can't stand the style, in which case I won't watch it all together. One piece is about the border of my comfort zone to be honest(which I realize is sad)

I personally love the style that follows the classic(slightly generic) shounen route, but add an awesome spin to it.
Anything that has strong character development, and dynamic character interactions and relationships.
Slightly cheesy in some aspects.

For example:
-TTGL
-Katanagatari
-Eureka Seven

I prefer genres with lots of action. Directed, plot-driven action, mind you, so that immediately rules out things like Bleach and DBZ. The art has to look nice and I don't like grungy animations or 80's-based facial features, although I will make Miyazaki an exception to that rule.

Lol at Jai's response to TTGL. I have mixed feelings about Katanagatari, since the art is extremely expressive and gestural, and the plot and motifs are very polished. I like it for that reason, but I just wish it had reached the extent of martial arts action I was hoping for. Maybe that's just the testosterone in me speaking, because it seemed more like watching a dialogue-based play than a movie.

I like boy and his monster Manga, Pokemon, Digimon, LegendZ, Yu-Gi-Oh. I know, it's silly.

THE LAST UNICORN? NO WAAAAY.
I have to watch that again, now.

An american cartoon, anime refers to japanese cartoon.

I don't have a particular preference except I hate "oh look needless panty shot" every 3 seconds.

It is dialogue-based. It is an adaption by the man who wrote Bakemonogatari which is heavily driven by dialogue and word play. The style of Katanagatri is what I find makes it so wonderful. The fights are the climax ,but it is built up by the dialogue.

As a artist I hate 90% of anime in general with a few exceptions.

Avartar is stylized graphic child like/heroic drawing which is what almost all of anime is.

That's the style I aim to draw, but it's always lacking style.

ANyone know of animes that share any of the qualities of Avatar? I'd love to watch them.
