Hey folks,

lately i've been noticing that a lot of anime and manga are containing more and more fanservice.
Highschool of the Dead even contained some soft-silly goose (thank god they didn't include any zombiesex)
i don't mind a bit of fanservice, but why does every new anime and/or manga needs to have it?!

just lemme know what you think of it...

WarFire out.

That disgusts me that a manga/anime needs fanservice just to get fans. ._.

I hold that fanservice is oversexualized silly goose with a high shock value largely popular among pubescent preteens, and is one of the reasons why so many westerners look down on anime and manga with disdain. Quite frankly, there's a lot of other things I like about anime and manga without its reputation having to be messed with, which occurs when fanservice becomes the biggest selling point in several gajillion titles.

I can tolerate it in moderation, but I wouldn't watch a show that was based purely on fan-service.

I don't really care about it as long the anime entertains me.

I agree, but most of the time I'd avoid it if it did. It distracts too much from the story, imo.

There's nothing wrong with a bit of fanservice when it makes sense. All art is on some level self-indulgent - for both the artist and the audience. It is when the fanservice becomes the main draw and/or makes no sense in-context that you have a problem.

A good example is when an anime or manga has a character who is in no way sexual wearing extremely sexualized outfits. Why? Why would someone who acts - if not outright prudish - in a manner that suggests a lack of interest in sex, wear a sexy outfit? People do things that make sense. It is one thing for a flirty rogue to wear a revealing outfit. It is another thing for a battle hardened and asexual warrior maiden to wear a revealing outfit.

The problem with most anime/manga/Japanese media when it comes to fanservice is that often it makes no sense in context, and it often is the main, or a major, draw. It is not something being used to embellish a good story, it is something being used to replace a good story. The author realizes they are inept and tries to hide it under a mountain of silly goose.

This. That's why I tend to steer away from anything (even video games) that has this problem.

This should be the quote of the day.
