Hi, this is my 3rd (I think? or maybe 4th..) thread here on MT. I don't like my art and would very much love critiques to help me improve. The number one thing I want to improve on is anatomy, cuz I suck at that =/

Feel free to "rip it apart" if you have to. I can't draw abs at all and it's worse that I didn't use any reference for it, haha. Don't mind the pockets, I know they look funny.

P.S. If you can guess which anime influenced my style, then congrats! You win a cookie. Chocolate chip only though. :>

Everything down to about the level of the dude's shoulders is fine, but below that, it's like you're tapering his body into a 'V' shape. Even if he's fairly thin, his hips wouldn't be as narrow as that. As you said yourself, a reference photo would probably help you there. His hair is nicely defined though (and that's an epic mullet).

Gaff: Thanks! Hips and torsos were always my biggest problem. And yeah, I always draw mullets on guys for some reason. X_x

skunk: Dude, you are GOD. Thanks a bunch for the redline, that seriously helped. :D

Does the face look weird here to anyone? I can't draw girls at all, even though I'm a girl! >:[ They all turn out to be manly looking, lol. This was a quick sketch btw.

Your body anatomy need work. The face is to close to the neck, wide and flat shoulders, the chest is very low (boobs of the girl to) and the body doesn't have volume. So work with anatomy.

The face itself looks fine. I wouldn't have said there was anything manly about it.

Yeah, I know I have major trouble at anatomy. =/ But thanks for pointing out the specific things that were wrong.

This is coloring practice since I'm in an art block and can only draw faces (booo)

By the way, does anyone know how to digital paint? I'm actually pretty fascinated by that coloring style. Although I've never painted myself, I sometimes want to learn to stop relying on line arts all the time.

I was going to say something but I have to ask first, was the person's head supposed to be facing downward are his eyes just looking down?

His eyes only. But I'm not sure how successful that was, lol.

No it was successful for the most part. Maybe the mouth is a little bit too low since I was trying to figure out if he was facing down or not. I didn't want to assume you were doing one thing and just blather about something else.

Haha, I see. Yeah, a huge habit of mine is to draw the mouth too low and make the chin practically nonexistent. I don't know why, I should fix that =/

Okay, my fascination with digital painting has turned into obsession. I HAVE to try it now! So here's my attempt so far: (WIP)

Mouth is too low again  Can I call it a style since I always unconsciously draw it that way?

Don't sweat it. I used to be the exact opposite and made my people with TOO much chin xD

For some reason it doesn't seem too off in the picture you just posted though. I think with the other one, it just confused me how the head was angled and all.

Haha really? :P Aren't you glad that's over now? lol. Yeah, I know what you mean. I always draw weird head angles like that.

(fixed the mouth)

I have never traditionally painted in my life, so please forgive me if it looks terrible.

Practice makes perfect, broseph. You're very good. You ever do full bodies?

Sottaceti: Thanks. Nah not really, although I probably should. When I first started drawing, I used to draw headshots only, instead of drawing bodies with hands behind their backs like most people. So naturally, I'm better at drawing heads than the rest of the body.

Done.

My first digital painting success. The tones were way too dark, so I upped the contrasts. How is it? C&C please.

Edit: Mouth is still too low. *headdesk*
