If you’d like to take the next step up, there’s a book you may pick up that is also a manga but does not have furigana to help you read kanji. There are two versions of this book, one is fully in Japanese, while the either one is a mix of English and Japanese. This book is called ダーリンは外国人 (Dārin wa Gaikokujin) or My Darling is a Foreigner. For the English and Japanese mix version, check out My Darling is a Foreigner in English.

My Darling is a Foreigner is softcover, about the size of a regular book (i.e. it’s bigger than a manga book in height and width), and is a mix of color and black and white pages. It follows the life of Saori and Tony, told in Saori’s point of view and drawn by her as well. There are five chapters in the book covering certain themes with each chapter ending with Tony’s English School which explains certain words used within the chapter, and a commentary from Tony. Occasionally, extras appear as well such as the funny panel below.

So far, there’s only one My Darling is a Foreigner in English book but you may pick up additional books in the Japanese language. I guess you can think of it as a good way to jump to reading Japanese without any help.
