If you’re studying Japanese, you’ve probably wanted to try and see your progress by reading actual material that isn’t in your Learn Japanese book, DVD, or CD. You can search the web but generally, they’re too advanced for beginners to comprehend. The other option is to acquire books. But how, you say?
Several years ago, you wouldn’t have been able to but now, you can order Japanese books online! All thanks to Books Kinokuniya. You may order from them if you live in Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, Taiwan, USA, and UAE Dubai. Their site is available in English, Chinese, or Japanese language. Okay, it’s a bit limiting especially for countries that aren’t listed but it’s better than nothing.
For those of you who are lucky enough to be able to order from Kinokuniya, once you enter their site, the most important part that will help you with finding books – especially if you know what you’re looking for in particular – is the search box. Enter the Japanese title in the field, select Japanese books on the drop down menu and hit “Go!”. Your book or books will be listed. You may also use the menu at the side but that’s a little more complicated, not to mention searching through pages is a bit tedious.
Don’t know where to find titles in Japanese? Try Wikipedia; example One Piece; or if you just use Google or search engines, you’ll eventually run across the title of your manga written in Japanese.
If you order, and books are in stock, they will arrive within the week. For books that are out of stock, you’ll probably have to wait a bit longer – two weeks or so. For books they cannot get, they will cancel the order and you will not be charged.
In the next posts, I’ll be making recommendations of what to read and get so stay tuned!
