If you haven’t heard about it yet, Viz is pulling off something that many have asked for or dreamed of since the dawn of scanlation. Basically, Viz’s digital Weekly Shonen Jump magazines will now publish manga chapters on the same day as the Japanese counterpart will release. This means that the same day that the latest One Piece chapter releases in Japan, it will also release in English!
If you don’t feel the weight of what that means, let’s just put it this way: Before the Japanese chapter is released, an English version is being made at the same time. Both versions will then release on Friday. This will essentially beat out all the scanlation teams out there who are translating from the Japanese version to the English version with a several day lapse to clean the raw, edit, typeset, and then release the final edition. At the end of the day, this is a very good incentive for you to subscribe to Viz as the chapters will release on a timely manner and the translation and quality of the manga will be better than what fans can put out.
For a yearly subscription, head on over to Viz. A yearly subscription will set you back $25.99USD a year but you will get promo cards, special one shots, digital gifts, and more. Best of all, issues are downloadable and are for keeps – they won’t expire! For a sneak preview, head on over here and read the first chapter of OnePunch-Man.
