If you’ve been living under a rock, Japan faced a massive earthquake and later a devastating tsunami on March 11, 2011. A lot of things have happened since then. Charity drives from manga artists compiling works in a doujinshi, local business like Viz and MangaGamer stepping up with donations, manga magazines like Margaret making charity books, and even some creators personally doing drives like Akira Toriyama, creator of Dragon Ball Z.
Unfortunately, there were some industry members like Macross II Producer Hiroshi Kakoi, passed away from the quake prompting notices of anime, manga, and game industry members to “check-in” after the quake on their status. News came from sites but most came from Twitter.
If you would like to help out in the effort, there are numerous ways to do so. A charity list was post in the forum here, various industry charities listed here, International charities from Vertical listed here, and if you want to send help personally to someone already in Japan, you can contact Az from Gaijin Chronicles (formerly Gaijin Smash) here.
Should you want to talk about the situation, you may join us in the forum: Japanese Earthquake/Tsunami.
