Most people absolutely hate it when we always see stereotypes in the anime/manga we love. Here are just some of them. It WOULD make your manga stand out more if you try to avoid these types of personalities:
Girls
The Super Popular One
- Who has guys drooling over her feet, is stalked etc.
The Quiet One
- Who is usually alone, or Shy (Perfect example from Naruto: Hinata.)
The TSUNDERE
- These girls are getting super popular. Tsundere, who is usually cold and hostile towards a person (Usually the male protagonist!) and then suddenly shows affection. (Taiga, Shana, Louise e.g)
The Sporty One
- The one who excells in sports but not in studies (usually).
The Smart/Stern One
- The nerd of the class, can wear glasses, sophisticated and polite. Strict even.
The Rich One
- Tends to have blonde hair and come from England or America. Laughs like crazy and always overreacts at times.
The Big Sister Type
- Older sisters of one of the characters in the manga. Can also like the main character (Protagonist)
The Cute One
- The ones who wear frilly and colorful clothing, act childish and usually ARE childish.
The One with a Sad Past
- We’ve all read manga about a person with a sad past, this is just one more of them.
The Clumsy/Slow One
- As their name says.
The Always Smiling but usually Weak inside One
- As their name says.
The Faithful One
- Usually the one that stands through all the male protagonist’s stupid things.
The Female Protagonist’s Trusty Friend
- usually the ones who provide feedback and opinions for the main female.
Boys
The Lone Wolf
- Hangs alone. Dwells alone. Lives alone.
The Play Boy
- Can be popular. (especially amongst girls) and tends to date a lot during the manga.
The Popular One
- Popular for a reason, whether they’re funny, kind or just nice to be around.
The Sporty One
- In this case, the jock or athletic, fast runners and excells at sports.
The Smart/Nerd
- Almost ALWAYS wears glasses, the class nerd or president of student council ETC.
The NORMAL ONE (WARNING. HAREM SIGN GOES HERE)
- These NORMAL people, are usually the ones who are picked as protagonists for harem mangas/anime. (Ranma, Ichigo 100%’s protagonist etc.)
The Delinquent
- The person who always gets into physical fights, usually has really bad grades.
The Perfect One (or Not)
-The one who seems perfect in everyway but in the end isn’t. *Sad face here*
The Quiet One
- Someone who doesn’t speak a lot.
The Weak-Willed
- Used a lot for sporting manga and/or action shounen manga. (Ippo, Sena…)
-The Loyal Follower of the Protagonist
A person who follows the protagonist through his hard times, even stupid times.
These are just some of the stereotypes off the top of my head. I’m sure you can find lots more. But just remember, you don’t have to follow stereotypes. Sure you can use them- but it’s the way you flip the typical stereotypes for your genre that’s going to make YOUR manga stand out.
