What started out as a small club in the 1980′s at the University of North Texas, turned to a 14-strong society spanning the country from New Mexico to Pennsylvania. “Mu Epsilon Kappa strives to create a safe and accepting environment of inter- and intra-cultural communication in which people are welcome to express themselves and explore their interests without fear of ridicule or persecution”, according to ANN, which explains the acceptance of manga and anime within the club.
What members do at Mu Epsilon Kappa was not mentioned in the article, but I’m sure it’s very pro-manga and anime and I wouldn’t be surprised if they even organize a small convention to promote manga and anime. All in all, I think it’s rather neat that they’ve lasted this long and gaining ground across the nation. It makes me wonder if there are other similar groups in other countries.
