This month is Yen Press’ first month of providing their monthly magazine Yen Plus in digital format. Yen Plus is an anthology monthly magazine much like Shonen Jump published by Viz Media which publishes new chapters of titles such as Maximum Ride, Nightschool, and Time and Again.
Yen Plus has been published for the past two years with the last issue printed last month, July 2010. The new digital version is available for the low, low price of $2.99 per month with this month’s issue available for free if you just sign up now. Don’t sit on your laurels though as the offer will be gone by September 9th.
Yen Plus is offered on a monthly subscription basis using Paypal. The current issue and any back issues; not the physical issues; may be viewed at any time which is very cool, in my opinion.
With this move by Yen Press, it makes me wonder if Viz will follow suit with their Shonen Jump magazine which is the last one standing of these manga anthology magazines. Shonen Jump has been going strong since 2002 and has had a subscription of 215,000 during 2008 at a price of $4.99 per issue at retail or $2.50 a month though a 12 month subscription. Viz’s female-oriented Shoujo Beat “hit the dust” last year, most likely due to it’s low circulation.
