During the change between hosts earlier this year in April, I have repeatedly kept getting emails. Some I had saved the replies to but had never had a chance to post up in the Mailbox…. until today. I’ve blown off the dust and here are some very long awaited answers that hopefully will reach the recipient.
I just wanted to get some advice, I’m very, very interested in writing a story for a manga/anime series, it’s a magical girl genre series. I suppose it will be closely-related to Sailor Moon since my inspiration are both series such as “Sailor Moon” & “Wedding Peach”. I can only work as a storywriter/creator because I dopn’t hold the skill at to ever draw, but if I find a anime artist is it possible for my creation to launch? My main goal is to have an anime TV series but even with the greatest ones I know start as manga. Can this really happen for me if i’m truly passionate about my written work? What are your opinions??
Guillermo
Anything is possible as far as I’m concerned. But that doesn’t help much.
You’re going to have to take it a step at a time. Have you written out your story? Have you made character sheets, written summaries, and made any kind of effort to make something? Most companies like to see work that is already done because a lot of people come to them with ideas and pitches but when push comes to shove, there’s a big gap between people who get things done and people who just dream big but don’t want to put in the effort to make it happen.
If you really want to make an anime out of your story – get something done.
Once you have that, try to get a crew together to work on your story. Be aware that people who volunteer are doing so in their own time and work may slack off or not get done. Keep your team motivated and moving forward. Don’t slack off in your end and communicate, communicate, communicate! I can’t stress that last part enough. When you communicate, you feel like you’re part of the team and it helps motivate you to get things done because things are progressing.
From there, it’s just a matter of pitching to companies to pick up your series but no matter what happens, don’t give up and keep going forward. Don’t get too attached to one story. If one things doesn’t work, move on to another until you get something that people like. Even Akira Toriyama has made short manga series before he hit it big with Dragonball and DBZ.
Anyways, take it slow, don’t give up, and start small first and move your way up. Good luck!
I’m not a member of your forums, but coming as a Moderator from several other forums, I’ve noticed a trolling problem (trolling = online bullying/harassment, if you didn’t know).
I was pondering over joining your forums, but I was discouraged by the lack of a mature and appropriate environment. To put it in simple terms, you have Members cussing at each other and Moderators do absolutely nothing (well, at least I’ve noticed that).
Seeing as I am not a Member of your large community, I can do nothing more than provide feedback. Some possible-Members may feel the same about your board based on the language. I very so recommend about the integration of a cuss filter into the board. On my previous boards, filters have done wonders if you use them correctly (changing words, and possible replacements, with asterisks (*’s)).
Moderation is also crucial to a forum. I’ve noticed topics that should have been locked upon observation, but yet no lock was placed even after the Moderator posted on the topic itself. Like I previously said, this may sound rude — but merely take it as suggestions and a helpful critique rather than attacking the moderation of your board … and the board itself.
Sincerely,
- Matthew
I would never consider opinions rude and yours definitely isn’t.
Yes, there is cussing at the forums. It’s something that was discussed awhile back at the forums and there was a general sense of people not wanting to be censored. I’m not particularly happy with it but people do curse and swear in real life so I’m not going to turn Puritan and make everyone wash their mouth out. It will definitely be addressed when the site is moved to our new hosting and revamped though. Currently, our forum is run on phpBB2 but it will be upgraded to phpBB3 which has a curse filter that can be turned on or off at each person’s discretion.
I definitely will be making adjustments at the new site so any suggestion is welcome. If you have any more, I would appreciate it if you would share it. If you’ve followed this thread, there are already suggestions about a Hire an Artist section, for example.
Anyways, it was good to hear from you. It’s a shame you’ve stayed a lurker but I don’t blame you you’re a little leery of joining the forum. Maybe you can join when the new site is up and running. Just a thought… C:
