From Siliconera, mega-Japanese publisher Shueisha, reported their very first annual loss earlier in the week, amounting to 4.18 billion yen (approx. $49 million). Though ad sales went down, sales of the magazines rose due to more sales of Shonen Jump. (Maybe the crackdown on illegal downloads worked?) Rival publishers Kodansha and Shogakukan also reported losses this quarter which makes good company all around and due to that profit loss, Shueisha overtook Kodansha as the #1 publisher in Japan.
