Yen Press’s comic magazine Yen Plus went digital during the fall. I was wondering if Shonen Jump will follow the same route but Viz had other plans.
Instead of going all digital, Viz has decided to create supplementary materials at their website for their subscribers. Not much details have been released but supplements will include more manga titles such as Bakuman, Nura, and Toriko.
As I understand it, Viz still has more than enough subscribers to Shonen Jump that going all digital is not really an option. Why fix it if it ain’t broke, right? But I figure this is their way of bridging into the digital realm just in case they will have to go into digital publication in the future and hey, it’s quite an extra perk for subscribers!
Now if only Viz would release chapters faster….
