It seems like Yaoi is the genre to blaze the way for digital manga because there’s more coming out this month. Previously, I mentioned that there were already yaoi in Kindle and DMP was going to release digital manga’s beginning with yaoi series. Is it just me or is there something special about yaoi that it gets to be the first genre to become digital?
I can think of a few reasons:
1) there is a steady market for yaoi to make investment worthwhile for companies
2) licensing yaoi titles are not as expensive as other popular genre’s
3) this is a good way to get a companies feet wet in the digital manga distribution system before investing more time or money on other genre’s
Whether you’re into yaoi or not, this is the time for digital manga and I hope they expand the selection sooner rather than later. I’m running out of shelf space for my books and graphic novels!
