Despite the gloom and doom reports of manga sales dropping, companies closing, and people making theories as to why, all things weren’t so bad for everyone. Dark Horse and Vertical actually saw a 13% and 18% rise in sales last month and for the year, respectively. Vertical touts their sales were due to Osamu Tezuka’s Black Jack bucking the “industry standard of ‘diminishing returns,’ in which a series’ individual volume sales drop off with each new book released”.
