Manga companies are out for blood. Not just any blood – scanlator blood. A Multi-National Manga Anti-Piracy Coalition was formed by US and Japanese publishers to combat the every increasing problem of free, scanned, and fan-translated online manga. As far as they are concerned, these scanlations are the reason why the manga industry has taken a downturn in sales and they’re not putting up with it anymore. Participants in the coalition include the 36 members of Japan’s Digital Comic Association, Square Enix, Viz Media, TOKYOPOP, Vertical, Inc., the Tuttle-Mori Agency and Yen Press.
A few sites have already taken action such as MangaHelpers which will now purge their site of raws and scanlated series by the end of the month. No news of action from major scanlation aggregators are available though if the
