Ahhh, maid cafe’s. They’re very abundant in Japan, popular, and quite fascinating on so many levels but they’re very rare in the West. But languish no more, because there is now a new maid cafe at Richmond, British Columbia near Vancouver. From ANN, “The Magnetic Café features dishes from a variety of countries throughout East Asia (including Japan, Korea, and China) along with drinks, free Wi-Fi, and staff dressed in a variety of costumes. …those costumes can vary from maids to schoolgirls to policewomen, depending on the week.” Pretty spiffy sounding, no? Wait till you check out their website! The preview of the cafe looks futuristic with clean lines and lots of food choices with prices of $10 and under for all their items in the menu.
If you can’t make it to this location, there is another in California at Culver City called Royal/T Café which has been going strong since 2008. No news yet of a maid cafe in any eastern cities but if any open locally, like New York City, I’ll definitely take the time to check it out.
