Every year, a Japanese private school located in Purchase, NY called Keio Academy of New York offers a Digital Media Creation Summer Program.
This is a two week program open to 40 students from Japan and 40 from the US. This year, it is being held from July 24 to August 7th. The program includes a video production workshop (anime, music video, short film, etc), Japanese language classes, hands-on cultural experiences such as udon-making, martial arts workshops, and karoake singing contests, sports activities, and field trips.
This program is only open to young adults aged 12-15 (ah, too bad – I’m too old) and you have to pay a cool $3,300USD to participate. The early bird special has passed which would’ve saved you $500USD but there is fortunately scholarships available which can reduce that fee down a bit.
For those who can afford it and is in the right age group, this sounds like a pretty cool camp to go to for the summer. If you live in a metropolis, be on the lookout for neat summer programs like this. I actually found out about this one from a little pamphlet in a Japanese bookstore. If you’re interested in the program or just want to check it out (and possibly stare with envy), visit
