According to a recent calculation in Bungei Shunju’s Weekly Bunshun magazine, Eiichiro Oda creator of One Piece is making about 2 billion yen (US$24 million) per year. Estimates were based on yearly sales of One Piece manga volumes (32,343,809 volumes x 400 yen/volume), Oda’s estimated royalty earnings (10%), plus estimated royalty sales from character goods. These are all estimates of course so the number could actually be lower or higher!
Some of you may have stars in your eyes and would like to become successful like Oda but remember: the series has been running for over 10 years, a chapter released every week (minus a few weeks with breaks in between), and still continuing with no end in site. Oda is putting in the “sweat equity” for his income and if you want to be like him, you’ll have to do the same.
