That’s the feeling I’m getting from the manga industry and I don’t like it. This sentiment comes with the recent news of twelve new yaoi titles hitting the eManga website, a collaborative effort between Digital Manga Publishing (DMP) and Tokyopop. I have nothing against yaoi. People can read what they want to read as far as I’m concerned but it feels like they’re pigeonholing digital manga to just yoai and it’s terribly grating.
I would love to get my hands on digital versions of non-yaoi manga but as they are not supplying the product, I’ve been left with not purchasing the physical item itself. I do not have room to spare and I will not buy another physical volume unless it’s one series I truly love. Maybe a lot of other folks feel the way I do and that’s why there’s expectations of the manga industry falling by 20% by the end of this year. But who can say? I’m an optimist and I hope someone with clout in the manga industry has the bright idea to finally bring every other genre into digital formats.
