There are no janitors employed by the school so students and teachers; but mainly students; have to clean everything within the building and grounds except the kitchen. Specifically, they have to clean the classrooms, stairs, grounds, bathrooms, hallways, and cleaning up the school animals cages or pen. The work is divided into groups who does different chores on a rotating basis so that everyone will eventually do all the areas I mentioned previously.
Cleaning is required school work and teachers do not mind if the children turn the cleaning into a game such as doing races while they sweep the floors. Cleaning usually means cleaning the floors which has to be swept and polished. There are no uniforms mentioned when children are cleaning up though they do have to wear special clothing when cleaning the bathroom for sanitary reasons.
The cleaning of the school is supposed to foster a student’s sense that the school is theirs which makes sense. After someone works so hard to clean something up, they’re less likely to mess it up and more inclined to keep treat it better.
